22 December is Winter Solstice. For Chinese, it’s called Dongzhi.
Traditionally, the Dongzhi Festival is also a time for family to get gathering.
In Malaysia, the main activity during Dongzhi is making and eating tangyuan (boiled ball of glutinous rice
flour). Tangyuan are made of
glutinous rice flour and sometimes brightly coloured and then cooked in a sweet
soup. Tangyuan is usually eaten
together with family. The round shape of the balls and the bowls where they are
served, come to symbolise the family togetherness.

It has been late when I reached my uncle’s
house. Tangyuan almost done.
